Speaker of the House of Representatives Carmelo Abela visited the Junior College during Freshers’ Week, where he met students and visited the stands set up to welcome them and provide useful information for the start of the new academic year.
During the visit, the Speaker was welcomed by the College’s leadership, including the Principal, Mr Paul Xuereb, and the Chairperson, Prof. Emanuel Said.
“It is a pleasure for me to visit the Junior College and meet the students at the beginning of this academic year,” said the Speaker. He stressed the importance of this event in helping students, both those beginning their journey at the College and those continuing their studies, learn more about the academic services and support available for their well-being.
The link between Parliament and educational institutions such as the Junior College can help students better understand the work of Parliament and their own role in democratic life. Collaboration and dialogue help bring Parliament closer to young people and citizens and make its work more widely known and understood.
The Speaker congratulated the organisers and the Junior College’s management on their commitment to creating a welcoming environment that provides students with the support they need to succeed in their studies and develop their talents.
